Contact information: | Facilitating Ongoing Learning If we are committed to being effective in bringing the reality of Jesus Christ to a culture which is increasingly ignorant about His grace and teachings, we absolutely must be committed to life-long learning. Meeting the needs of ministry in the local church necessitates an ongoing series of seminars and training sessions. The Wesley Institute will provide a number of courses throughout the year that will aim to help all more effectively carry out the mission of the local church. Events will include: training in Biblical Studies, information about our changing culture, and core courses about John Wesley's theology. These courses will not only point out what makes Methodism distinct from other denominations, but will emphasize how Wesleyan theology is increasingly relevant for sharing the love of Christ in the 21st century. Teaching Wesleyan Principles The teaching of John Wesley is not only relevant in today's culture, but his enthusiasm for the task of winning souls for Christ is crucial if the United Methodist Church is going to rise to its calling. Wesley did not confine "ministry" to the clergy. Likewise, the Wesley Institute welcomes all persons to its learning events who desire to renew their mind for the sake of discerning the perfect will of God, and conveying that will to a broken and hurting world. Developing Cutting-Edge Leadership Retooling by learning new skills, refreshing the intellect by gleaning new insights, and renewing the mind are expected of any participants in organizations which strive to be excellent. Therefore, the Wesley Institute will provide for the renewing of the mind by:
Organization Under the direct supervision of the Bishop of the Holston Annual Conference and led by a Board of Holston laity and clergy, the intiatives of the Wesley Institute will be carried out by a Director.
