A retreat for
young people exploring ministry, grades 9-12.
Discovery is
a time for high school youth to enrich their personal
walks with God, and to explore God's call on their lives into
vocational ministry. As baptized believers, we are all
called by God to ministry. The question is how that call will
take shape. As clergy or laity? In vocational ministry?
Listening for and to God will provide the answers, but God
speaks in many different ways. Discerning and answering God's
call can involve questioning and struggle. Response to the
call involves faithfulness and courage, sometimes in
unexpected ways from unlikely people. Moses, for example, was
scared, had a speech impediment, and was a
murderer.
At Discovery, we will consider what it
means to be "called," what it means to
respond
to God's call, and what a ministry of servanthood
means. Through times of prayer, worship, sharing groups,
workshops, panel discussions, Bible study, and fellowship, you
will discover friends, old and new, also exploring God's call
on their lives. You will have a chance to share with those who
have gone before you in the call, trying to live faithfully to
it. The good thing is, you'll do it in community and you are
not alone. We are here to walk with you.
Bishop James Swanson , our Holston Conference bishop, will be
our speaker on Saturday night. Rev. Carol
Wilson and Rev. Charles Maynard
will also be speaking at the
event.
